Young People from Six European Countries Gather in Trilj for Erasmus+ Project “Green Bites – From Field to Jar”
From 9 to 17 October 2026, Trilj is hosting the Erasmus+ youth exchange “Green Bites – From Field to Jar”, organised by the Kamerlengo Association. The project brings together young people from Croatia, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Türkiye and North Macedonia.
Through educational and interactive workshops, participants explore the importance of healthy eating, sustainable agriculture, local food production, and the preservation of traditional customs and skills. Particular emphasis is placed on reducing food waste, making responsible use of local ingredients, and preserving knowledge of traditional food preparation and preservation methods.
As part of the hands-on activities, participants are making mandarin jam and pickled cucumbers, learning about traditional food preservation techniques and the importance of making the most of seasonal produce. These activities demonstrate how to extend the shelf life of food, reduce waste, and use available local resources responsibly.
In addition to educational and practical workshops, participants are also taking part in a community clean-up initiative, highlighting the importance of environmental protection, responsible attitudes towards nature, and active involvement in the local community.
As part of the project, participants also visited Samardžić Mill in Grab, where they discovered the local traditions and cultural heritage of the Cetina region and learned about the importance of preserving traditional ways of life.
Beyond its environmental and educational activities, the project promotes intercultural cooperation, the exchange of experiences, and new friendships among young people from different European countries. Through teamwork, hands-on activities, and encounters with local heritage, participants develop a greater awareness of sustainable living and the ways in which everyday actions can contribute to environmental protection.
The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme.
