As the feast of St. Michael the Archangel approaches, Trilj is entering the final days of its multi-day celebration of its patron saint, and the concluding days of the program bring a series of interesting events for all generations. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour exhibitions, listen to a travelogue lecture, enjoy a children's festival, visit a traditional fair, and also participate in the central city and religious events dedicated to the city's patron saint.

The cultural programme continues on Friday, 25 September, at 7:30 p.m. with the opening of the exhibition “Milivoj Jurić – Guardian of Heritage” at the Museum of the Trilj Region. The exhibition presents a selection of items from the collection, ranging from archaeological and numismatic material to devotional objects, as well as ethnographic and cultural-historical artefacts. The event will also feature the presentation of the catalogue The Donated Collection of Milivoj Jurić, which provides a professional overview and documentation of the collection.

On Saturday, 26 September, the programme features two cultural events. From 5:00 p.m., at the Klarića house, next to the pharmacy, the art exhibition “The buzz of St Michael’s”  is organised by “Tilurium”, the Trilj Art Association. The exhibition will be open to visitors until Tuesday, 29 September.

That same evening, at 7:00 p.m., the Trilj Town Cinema will host the exhibition “Through the  Eyes of a Mountaineer”, organised by the Jelinak Mountaineering Club, followed by a travel lecture by Andrija Džalo about his ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. This unique combination of photography and travel storytelling will offer visitors an insight into both the breathtaking beauty and the demanding challenges of mountaineering.

Sunday, 27 September, will be especially dedicated to the youngest members of the community. At 7:00 p.m., the Trilj Town Cinema will host the children’s festival “Mali Trilj”, organised by the Association „Friends of the family“. The festival will bring together children, their families and everyone who enjoys children’s music and creativity.

Monday, 28 September, and Tuesday, 29 September, bring the traditional fair to Trilj. Held on the eve of and on the Feast of St. Michael, the fair will once again enliven the town’s streets and centre, transforming Trilj into a vibrant cultural and culinary hub of the Cetina region. Visitors can look forward to a rich selection of authentic local products, handmade goods created by local artisans and creatives, and an outstanding gastronomic offering.

Central City Programme

Monday, 28 September, will also be marked by a series of events organized by the town of Trilj. At 11:00 a.m., wreaths will be laid and candles lit at the Monument to the Croatian and Trilj Defenders who lost their lives in the Croatian War of Independence. The ceremony will pay tribute to their sacrifice and serve as a lasting expression of gratitude and remembrance.

At noon, a ceremonial session of the Trilj Town Council will be held in the Conference Hall of the 3LJ Business and Service Centre.

The programme will continue at 5:00 p.m. in Trilj Town Park with the Evening of Vrbanja, featuring čobanac, a traditional Slavonian meat stew, organised by the Town of Trilj and the Municipality of Vrbanja. This warm and cheerful evening celebrates the strong historic and friendly ties between Slavonia and the Cetina region, bringing together hundreds of visitors who can enjoy complimentary servings of authentic Slavonian čobanac and traditional cured meat specialities, accompanied by the distinctive sounds of the tamburica (traditional musical instrument of Slavonia).

Religious Programme Ahead of the Feast of St. Michael

A central place in the programme is reserved for the rich religious celebrations at the Parish Church of St. Michael.

From Saturday, 26 September, through Monday, 28 September, a three-day programme will be held as part of the novena, beginning at 6:00 p.m. each day with the Angelic Rosary, prayers to St. Michael and Holy Mass.

The highlight of the celebrations will be Tuesday, 29 September – the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel, the heavenly patron saint of the Town of Trilj.

On the feast day itself, the celebrations will begin with Holy Mass at 8:00 a.m. At 10:00 a.m., the central Mass will be celebrated, followed by a solemn procession led by Most Rev. Petar Palić, Bishop of Mostar-Duvno region. The celebrations will conclude with an evening Mass at 6:00 p.m.

The many events taking place at different locations throughout Trilj during these final days will once again bring together everything that makes our town special – its rich heritage, cultural and artistic creativity, traditions, faith and the strong sense of community that unites the people of the Cetina region.
