THIS SUMMER, TAKE THE TURN TOWARDS THE CETINA: HERE'S WHY TRILJ DESERVES A PLACE ON YOUR ITINERARY

What if we told you that this summer you don't have to choose between festivals and tranquillity, tradition and entertainment, mountains and rivers, adrenaline and long evenings filled with music beneath the stars?

In Trilj, you can have it all! Just a few minutes from the Bisko motorway exit, in a town where the Cetina River sets the pace of everyday life, Trilj once again welcomes everyone looking for something beyond the ordinary holiday experience. Here, summer isn't measured by the number of vacation days, but by the memories you take home.

It's measured by music echoing through the town park, the excitement surrounding local football tournaments, the aromas of traditional Dalmatian cuisine simmering in age-old pots, the sound of motorcycles arriving from across Croatia, blues riffs drifting through warm summer nights, and breathtaking views from Mount Kamešnica.

This is Summer in the Rhythm of the Cetina – a three-month programme that celebrates everything Trilj stands for: the authenticity of inland Dalmatia, genuine local hospitality, and events that will make you want to stay just one more day.

Where Tradition Still Brings People Together

Summer in Trilj began exactly as you would expect in a region where community spirit and tradition remain at the heart of everyday life.

On 12 June, the village of Košute welcomed families and pilgrims celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Following the religious ceremonies, the celebration continued with an evening concert by Branko Medak and Hrvatske Ruže, proving once again that faith and festivity naturally go hand in hand here.

The following day, the nearby village of Ugljane celebrated St. Anthony's Day, honouring the beloved patron saint of children. After Mass, the gathering turned into a lively village celebration featuring a concert by Antonija Čerkez, a traditional raffle and a prize that quickly became the talk of the region – a car.

Meanwhile, on 15 June, the historic village of Čačvina echoed with the sounds of ganga and ojkavica during Megdan Fest, held alongside the Feast of St. Vitus. Far from being museum pieces, these traditional forms of singing continue to unite generations and preserve the living cultural heritage of the Cetina region.

Where Football Is More Than Just a Game

If you want to experience the true spirit of the Cetina region, simply spend an evening beside one of Trilj's football pitches.

This is where every pass is analysed, referees are passionately debated, new friendships are formed and legendary stories begin – stories that locals will still be telling years from now.

The summer football season has already kicked off with the Mokrulj Cup in Velić, a tournament that brings together players of all generations and reflects the region's deep love for what locals simply call balun. The excitement continues on 6 July, when the St. Michael's Football Tournament officially begins, filling warm summer evenings with competitive matches, enthusiastic supporters and the pursuit of sporting glory.

From Chrome to Motorcycles

The people of Trilj have always had a special affection for life on wheels.

That passion was beautifully showcased on 14 June, when the town welcomed participants of the Oldtimer Promo Tour. Some of the finest classic cars ever built rolled into Trilj, their gleaming chrome, timeless design and elegant silhouettes creating scenes that felt like stepping into another era.

Only a few weeks later, on 10 and 11 July, the soundtrack changes from vintage engines to roaring motorcycles.

The annual Moto Party, organised by the Noćni Jahači Motorcycle Club, will once again bring together bikers from Croatia and abroad for two unforgettable days of live music, open roads and friendships that transcend borders.

Two Evenings of Laughter Therapy

Between football tournaments, concerts and traditional festivities, Trilj pauses for something everyone could use a little more of: laughter.

On 17 and 18 July, the Weekend of Laughter offers two evenings of comedy, positive energy and carefree summer entertainment. Because some of life's best memories are made when you forget about everyday worries, share a laugh with friends and simply enjoy the moment.

And if you leave Trilj with only one souvenir this summer, let it be a smile.

The Thrill Blues Festival Returns for Its Ninth Edition

Some festivals you visit once.

Others become part of your summer calendar.

The Thrill Blues Festival has long outgrown its local roots to become one of the leading blues festivals in inland Dalmatia. On 24 and 25 July, Trilj will once again welcome outstanding Croatian and international blues artists, transforming its streets and squares into an open-air stage where world-class music meets the relaxed atmosphere of a small riverside town.

Year after year, audiences prove that great music knows no borders.

If you've ever dreamed of listening to the blues beneath the stars, beside a river and surrounded by the charm of historic Dalmatian streets, this is your invitation.

Come Hungry. Leave in Love with the Flavours.

Some destinations are best discovered around a table.

At the Days of the Dalmatian grill, Polenta and Traditional Pot Cooking, Trilj serves one of its most authentic stories through food. Aromas of slow-cooked local dishes, recipes lovingly passed down through generations and hosts who will always insist that you "have just one more bite" remind visitors why the simplest things are often the most memorable.

Held in the village of Tijarica on 31 July and 1 August, this celebration isn't about culinary trends or fine dining. It's about genuine hospitality, honest ingredients and flavours that have stood the test of time.

Between the River and the Mountain

Imagine starting your morning on a mountain summit! On 1 August, hiking enthusiasts can join the Jelinak Mountaineering Society for an ascent of Mount Kamešnica, breathing in crisp mountain air while taking in spectacular panoramic views over the Cetina Valley.

By afternoon, you can already be cooling off beside the emerald waters of the Cetina River. And by evening? You'll be enjoying a concert, a festival or a lively summer celebration in the heart of Trilj. There are very few places where such different experiences are found so close together.

The Celebration That Brings the Whole Town Together

On 2 August, Trilj celebrates the way it always has – loudly, joyfully and together.

The Trilj Town Festival revives traditional competitions and games that generations of locals grew up with. Once again, the Cetina River becomes the centre of the action, hosting traditional boat races, swimming challenges and a series of entertaining contests that reward agility, teamwork and a healthy competitive spirit.

One of the festival's most eagerly awaited spectacles is the famous rope climb for prosciutto, where competitors race to scale a suspended rope to claim one of Dalmatia's most delicious prizes.

Even the youngest visitors have their own moment in the spotlight through traditional slingshot competitions and family-friendly activities.

As the sun sets, the celebrations continue exactly as every Dalmatian summer festival should, with live music, homemade food, local wine, laughter and long tables where residents and visitors celebrate side by side.

Because the Trilj Town Festival isn't something you simply watch. It's something you become part of!

Where Tradition Rides Forward

The summer season concludes with one of the most distinctive events in the Trilj region – the Women's Alka, held in the village of Gaz on 16 August.

More than a decade ago, driven by a passion for equestrian sport and a firm belief that no discipline should belong exclusively to men, the local sports association launched what has since become one of the defining events of Trilj's summer calendar.

Year after year, skilled female riders demonstrate extraordinary precision, courage and competitive spirit, proving that tradition is not something that resists change – it is something that evolves through the people who continue to live it.

Authentic and unique, the Women's Alka preserves local customs, sporting excellence and community identity, showing that traditions are not safeguarded by placing them behind glass, but by passing them from one generation to the next.

This Summer, Take the Turn Towards the Cetina

So, before you join another traffic jam on the way to the coast, consider taking a different road, and turn towards the Cetina river.

Perhaps you'll come for the blues festival, the motorcycles, the local cuisine, the mountain trails or one unforgettable summer celebration. But don't be surprised if you discover something far more valuable: a town where people still greet each other in the street, a place where there's always room for one more person at the table, and a destination where summer never tries to be anything other than authentic.

Summer in the Rhythm of the Cetina.

Come for the events. Return for the people, the stories and the feeling that stays with you long after summer ends.

The project has been financed through the Fund for Tourism Underdeveloped Areas and the Continental Tourism Development Programme, based on a decision of the Croatian National Tourist Board’s Tourism Council, following the recommendation of a committee composed of representatives of the Croatian National Tourist Board, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, and members of the Tourism Council of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board.
